In waste paper pulping lines, the drum screen is typically positioned downstream of the high-consistency hydrapulper to perform coarse screening on the disintegrated pulp, removing large and heavy contaminants and thereby alleviating the load on subsequent screening equipment. Characterized by a simple structure, stable operation, high throughput capacity, and low fiber loss, the drum screen plays an irreplaceable role in the stages of coarse pulp screening and rejects handling.
Drum Screen Position
Continuous Pulping System: A hole-screen drum screen is positioned downstream of the D-type hydrapulper and the hydrapurger. Waste paper is fed into the D-type hydrapulper via a chain conveyor; following slushing, the pulp—containing light impurities—passes through a junk pit into the hydrapurger. It then enters the drum screen to separate larger light impurities, with the accepted pulp returned to the D-type hydrapulper. This circuit serves to recover accepted pulp, increase pulp yield, and prevent the accumulation of light impurities.
End of Coarse Screening System: A slot-screen drum screen is located downstream of the mid-consistency coarse screen and the light impurity separator, serving as the final stage of coarse screening. Pulp enters the coarse screening system after heavy impurities are removed by a high density cleaner; it passes through the mid-consistency coarse screen, with the rejects proceeding to the light impurity separator. The rejects from that stage then enter the drum screen to separate fine light impurities and further purify the pulp. This configuration employs a progressive approach: the mid-consistency coarse screen captures larger light rejects, the light impurity separator handles medium-sized impurities, and the drum screen acts as a final safeguard to ensure the thorough separation of fine light impurities.
With low energy consumption, high throughput, and stable operation, the drum screen effectively separates light impurities and recovers usable pulp, thereby alleviating the burden on downstream fine screening and de-shiving processes.
