Apple Screen for Pulp Mills – Light Impurity Separator

In the waste paper pulping process, efficiently removing various impurities mixed in the pulp is a crucial step determining paper quality and production efficiency. The Apple Screen, also known as a Light Impurity Separator, is a specialized screening device designed specifically for this purpose.
Light Impurity Separator Working Principle
The Light Impurity Separator employs an upflow feeding method, and its core working principle can be summarized as “vortex separation and graded discharge.”
After the pulp enters the shell from the bottom of the equipment, the rotor rotates at high speed, generating a powerful vortex within the shell. In this vortex field, materials of different densities are subjected to different centrifugal forces, thus achieving precise separation:
Light impurities (such as plastic flakes, foam, and adhesives), with lower density, are concentrated at the center of the vortex and ultimately discharged from the center outlet at the top of the shell;
Accept pulp (qualified fiber pulp) is further dispersed between the bottom of the rotor and the screen plate, and then discharged through the good pulp pipe via the screen plate;
Heavy impurities (such as sand, gravel, and metal shavings) are thrown to the outermost edge of the vortex under centrifugal force, depositing in the sedimentation trench outside the screen plate, and periodically discharged through the sedimentation tank.
This “one machine, three discharges” design allows the apple pulp screen to simultaneously complete three tasks: light impurity separation, accept pulp purification, and heavy impurity sedimentation, resulting in a high degree of equipment integration.
With the increasing importance attached to waste paper recycling and the paper industry moving towards a green and circular development, the value of Light Impurity Separator as key screening equipment in pulping production lines is becoming increasingly prominent.
