Stock Preparation Machine Double Disc Refiner

The double disc refiner is a core piece of equipment in the pulp and paper industry, applied for continuous beating and refining. Its defining feature is the inclusion of two refining zones within a single housing; as pulp passes through these zones, it is subjected to the mechanical action of the refining discs, which alters the fiber morphology to meet the requirements for papermaking.

Disc Refiner Workflow

Pulp Feed and Distribution: Upon entry, the pulp is distributed into two parallel refining zones located on either side of the rotating disc.

Gap Adjustment via Rotation: The disc rotates, while a positioning mechanism adjusts the gap between the refining discs.

Refining: As the pulp passes through the gap, the fibers undergo compression, shearing, and friction, completing the refining process.

Pulp Discharge: The pulp from both refining zones converges and is discharged.

The advantage of a double disc refiner does not lie in any single, extreme performance metric; rather, it stems from the ability to integrate high production capacity density, efficient energy consumption, and ease of maintenance into a single piece of equipment—all within the constraints of a limited investment budget.
