Ragger For Waste Paper Pulping Lines

A ragger is a piece of coarse screening and cleaning equipment applied in conjunction with a hydrapulper in waste-paper pulping lines. Its function is not to process usable pulp, but rather to extract long, flexible, and easily tangled contaminants—such as wires, plastic films, strapping bands, cotton yarn, and rags—from the pulping vat by twisting them into a single “rope.” This prevents these materials from becoming entangled around the pulper’s rotor.

Ragger Workflow

Capture via rope: A rope is introduced into the pulp vat, where elongated impurities wrap around it, forming a core.

Accumulation: As more impurities wrap around, the tail end grows progressively thicker and longer.

Continuous extraction: The tail end is gripped between a main roll and a rider roll, then pulled out of the pulp vat at a controlled speed.

Cutting and discharge: The tail end is guided toward a cutting station, where it is severed into shorter segments and discharged.
